Sophos Control Center: Client computers are not updating from the Control Centre

Issue
Clients are not updating from the Control Center

When you right click the shield and select 'Configure updating' you can see that the updating username and password for the primary server are blank. The updating policy given out by the Control Center has a blank username and password so the client computers cannot connect to the (Central Installation Directory) CID to update.

Sophos product and version
Sophos Control Center 2.0.1

Operating system
Windows 2003

What to do

  1. Go into Windows Active Directory and reset the passwords for the
    • Sophos_AU_Client
    • Sophos_AU_Server users.
Make sure the users remember the new passwords. (If necessary, refer to your Windows documentation for information on Active Directory.)
  2. You now need to make changes to the Windows registry. Before you do this, read the knowledgebase article that describes how to back up the registry and the warning about editing the registry :
    • Open the registry editor and navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Sophos\SBE\Management Tools
    • Open the SetupStatus key
    • Change the value Data to 0
    • Close the Registry editor
  3. Open the Sophos Control Center and re-run the network protection wizard as far as step 3.
  4. On step 3 click 'Advanced'.
  5. On the Download folder tab, enter details for the Sophos_AU_Client account and the Sophos_AU_Server account.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Allow the Network Protection wizard to complete.
  8. Re-apply the central configuration to the client computers, they should now update successfully.
