At the annual Internet Industry Association (IIA) Members Gala Dinner, Rob Forsyth, managing director of Sophos Asia Pacific, was appointed as the association’s Deputy Chairman for the second consecutive year. Forsyth has also been a member of the board since he was first nominated in 2005.

The night was a stunning success with 500 industry representatives in attendance, with addresses by the Minister Stephen Conroy, Facebook Advisor Mozelle Thompson and a keynote address by Justice Michael Kirby of the High Court of Australia.

The IIA is Australia’s national internet industry association which provides policy input to government and advocacy on a range of business and regulatory issues, to promote laws and initiatives which enhance access, equity, reliability and growth of the medium within Australia.

Rob Forsyth joined Sophos in 2001 and was appointed to the role of managing director for Sophos’s Asia Pacific operations in January 2006. Prior to joining Sophos, Forsyth spent five years with the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) as workforce planning and industrial relations program manager, where he was in charge of more than 180,000 paid, volunteer and contract positions.

Commenting on his appointment, Rob Forsyth said, "During my tenure on the IIA’s Board, I have greatly enjoyed working alongside some of Australia’s leading internet industry figures. Together, we have represented the legal, regulatory, technical and commercial interests of the industry. In 2008, the IIA will continue to encourage a positive change with the aim of strengthening Australia’s internet market."
